DJ Kelly got his start in spring 1997 at the Sporstman Bar (which was housed in the same location where Zooelegers currently resides). Through his eclectic mixes of house, hi-energy, R&B, rock and pop, he quickly became a community favorite. By late '98 the fire marshall put restrictions on the bar, limiting occupancy to under 100. The resulting lines to get in to hear DJ Kelly marked the hay day of club music in the late 90's. After leaving his post in late 1999, DJ Kelly returned for a few limited engagements at the Sportsman through 2002. Unfortunately, the energy of the Sportsman and the world's fascination with club music had suffered after the millennium. The hay day was over and DJ Kelly tossed in the towel on DJing. Then, in June 2005, Zoolegers Nightclub opened its doors. DJ Kelly had been aching to spin again after three years off and was offered a post at the new club.
